Darrold Abts, age 86, of Alma, WI passed away on the morning of Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at St. Michael's assisted Living in Fountain City, WI
Darrold was born on September 17, 1934 to the late Elmer and Laverne (Heuser) Abts.
He attended Fountain City Schools and graduated from Fountain City High School. During his school years, Darrold played on both the basketball and baseball teams.
After high school, Darrold honorably served his Country as a member in the United States Army.
On July 19, 1955, Darrold was united in marriage to Darline C. Lieberenz in Fountain City. To this union, two children were born. Darrold was a cheese maker at the AMPI plant in Alma where he and his team won the honor of being championship Swiss cheese makers. He was later a field man for AMPI.
Darrold loved the outdoors and all that nature gave to him. He was an active and faithful member of the Alma Rod & Gun Club. If Darrold wasn’t outside, you might see him enjoying time commiserating with his friends in Tell or in Alma, but one of his greatest joys was spending time with his family, where there just may have been a deck of cards and a cribbage board in sight.
Darrold was a devoted husband, evident by his selfless trips he made every single day to spend time with his wife, Darline.
Darrold will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Darline; son, Mike (Patty) Abts; daughter, Shelly (John) Hoch; grandchildren, Jenna (Jake) Wampole, Brad Abts, Andy Hoch and Amanda (Kris) Dressler; two great grandchildren, Jade and Jace Wampole; sister, Sharon Danielson; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Darrold was preceded in death by two brothers, Neil Abts and Gordy Abts and one sister, Doris Wolfe.
A private family graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at Alma Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.talbotfuneralhomes.com
