Darrell J. Menting

Darrell J. Menting, age 86, of Nelson, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the American Lutheran Home of Mondovi with his beloved wife and family at his bedside.
 He was born in Wabasha, MN on April 2, 1938 to the late Wilbert and Rose (Baader) Menting.

Darrell graduated from Durand High School.  Although he graduated from Durand High School, Darrell was proud to have been a student at Nelson High School through his junior year.

On June 13, 1959, Darrell was united in marriage to Christine Stewart at Lyster Lutheran Church.  To this union, four children were born.

Following his graduation, Darrell began working for Buster Tiffany.  Darrell soon started a long and successful career as a union laborer as a tender and eventually, cement finisher, he would dedicate approximately 30 years of employment at Market & Johnson in Eau Claire.  He was quite proud to have been part of building many of the structures throughout the area.

Darrell was a longtime and faithful member of Lyster Lutheran Church.

Darrell was a very talented and mechanically inclined man with the ability to fix most anything and even try to invent a product or make an existing product even better.  He was very proud to have built his own cabin, from the ground up, on his rural Buffalo County land.

Darrell had many hobbies and interests, such as hunting, fishing, rooting for his beloved team, the Green Bay Packers, an occasional casino trip, spending time in his garden and cooking.  Many will remember Darrell for his good natured personality, great sense of humor, smoking’ a cigar and grandpa’s delicious French fries.  He was always there for anyone in need, whether a friend or stranger, he would give them the shirt off his back.

Darrell will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Christine; children, Curtis (Laura) Menting, Karen (David) Lauer, Keith (Nancy) Menting and Cheryl (Randy) Patraw; grandchildren, Adrianna Menting, Kristen (Aaron) Molina, Alisha Menting, Isaac (Brittany) Menting, Ariel Menting, Abby Menting, Christie Jo Lauer, Andrea Konwinski, Mike Lauer, Alissa (Nathan) Evers, Lucas Menting, Kelsey (Tyler) Risch, Kari (Josh) Hanson and Cody (Jen) Patraw; 18 great grandchildren; siblings, Roger (MaryLou) Menting; sister, Joanne Orne; sister in law, Veronica Menting; also by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his brother, Junior and brother in law, Donald Orne.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Lyster Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating.  Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma chapel and again on Friday at the church from 10:30 AM until the hour of the service.
