Darrel D. Olson, age 86 of Mondovi, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 25, 1931 in Colfax, WI the son of Eddie and Hazel (Hanson) Olson. Darrel graduated from Colfax High School in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Clark on October 20, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomer. To this union, four children were born. Darrel served honorably during the Korean War in the 503rd Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He and Alice moved to Mondovi in 1956 were they have resided since. Darrel managed the Mondovi Branch of Huntsinger Farms for 25 years. In 1980 Darrel purchased a farm with his three sons. Darrel also owned Olson's Trenching and Drainage. He took pride in the produce that Olson's Farms grew and many will remember the produce stand. Darrel enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling to many different places. Darrel was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed watching all sporting events, national, college or high school level; whether in person or on tv. Darrel loved being around people and especially loved his family and spending time with them.
Darrel will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Alice of Mondovi; children, Douglas (Karon), Bruce (Lori), David (Marilyn) and Nancy (Brad) Bauer all of Mondovi; grandchildren, Amanda (Nathan) Weiss, Bridgette (Kyle) Brantner, Christina Olson, Alisha (Grant) Lewis, Travis Olson, Brett Bauer and Gretta (Luis) Reppert ; great-grandchild, Beckett Brantner and one on the way; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Reuben Olson and sister-in-law, Donna Olson.
A funeral service will be held at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes - Mondovi Chapel on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and then again at church one hour prior to the service.
