Clifford “Cliff” Burmeister, age 95 of Buffalo City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2017 with his family at his side at Lake Winona Manor, Winona. He was born on June 10, 1922 in Buffalo City, WI, the son of Gustav and Elizabeth (Fluekiger) Burmeister. On November 20, 1947 Cliff was united in marriage to Inez Wenger and to this union three sons were born and raised their nephew just like their own. He was a proud World War II Army Veteran, serving in the 711th Tank Battalion. He was privileged to be a veteran on the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Cliff worked for the Army Corp of Engineers for over 30 years. He was a longtime and faithful member of Dr. Martin Luther Church in Buffalo City and a lifetime member of the Cochrane VFW. Cliff was bestowed the honor as the oldest lifelong resident of Buffalo City during the Buffalo City sesquicentennial. He was an avid Packers fan. Cliff enjoyed the Mississippi River, especially fishing its waters. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and trapping and hunting. Cliff and Inez loved to travel and after retirement, they traveled many miles in their motor home.
Cliff will be sadly missed by his four sons, Steven (Julie), Bruce (Carol), Brian (Tammy) all of Buffalo City and Terry (Sue) Shafer of Indian Creek, WI; grandchildren, Mindy (Matt) Ward, Mickey (Jenny) Burmeister, Kipp (Savanah) Hulquist, Kelly (Tim) Cartwright, Scott (Marcy) Shafer, Ashley (Corey) Byas, and Jena (Chris) Minetti; great grandchildren, Madison, Mylee, Maci, Landon, Sawyer, Kinley, Brandon, Ben, Kristin, Tyler, Alec, Zak and Gavin; brother, Roger of Buffalo City; brother in law, Roger (Karen) Wenger of Janesville, WI; sister in law, Carmela Burmeister of Winona, MN; other relatives and many dear friends.
Besides his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Inez on April 1, 2016; sisters, Glennise, Grace and Lila; brothers, LeRoy, Harry “Bones”, Lester “Fuzzy” and Adolf “Red” and sisters in law, Clara and Mabel.
A funeral service for Cliff will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane with Pastor Mark Wilde officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo City Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the church from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to be made to the Cochrane VFW.
