Clifford M. Anderson, age 96, of Mondovi died Thursday February 26, 2015 at the American Lutheran Home of Mondovi
Clifford Milo Anderson was born on April 11, l918 in Dover Township, Buffalo County WI to Oscar and Johanna (Klingel) Anderson. He attended Meadowbrook School in Lower Bennett Valley where he built the fire in the school stove each morning before school. He left school after 7th grade and worked on and outside the home farm to help support the family. He worked many jobs (many of which he hitch-hiked to) including working the family farm and other area farms, set pins at a bowling alley in Racine, worked at road construction for Burt Ayres in Eau Claire “from 4 a.m. through 9 p.m. 7 days a week” and cleared river bottoms with the Civilian Conservation Corp in Illinois for road construction purposes. He helped build the power plants in Alma WI and was harvesting wheat in a field in South Dakota when he was informed that Uncle Sam wanted him. In l942 he joined the World War II Army as a medic and served in the Asian Pacific Arena specifically in the Philippines. During his service he earned the Purple Heart, Combat Medic Badge and Bronze Star. He was discharged from the Army in 1945 after performing duties as a medic and being cut down by a sub-machine gun while moving a fellow soldier to safety. He spent a year in the hospital recovering from those wounds. On August 16, 1951, Clifford was united in marriage to Esther Struck in Stillwater, MN. Esther preceded Clifford in death on January 18, 2000. In l964 he joined the custodial staff at Mondovi School and retired in 1983 after almost 20 years of service. He spent the rest of his life doing what he liked most; having coffee with his friends at KD’s Café at 6:30 a.m., hunting and fishing with family and friends, trapping and being the GO TO MAN for mole and gopher removal. He had a story for every occasion which usually came with a laugh and a lesson. One more star was added to the Milky Way on Monday, February 23rd 2015.
Clifford was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oscar Anderson and Joanna (Klingel) Anderson; his wife of 48 years, Esther (Struck) (Beeson) Anderson, a daughter Carol Jean (Beeson) Winsand and son Kenneth Beeson. He was also preceded in death by his brother Arthur Anderson and sister-in-law, Jean Anderson; brother LaVere Anderson and brother LaVerne Anderson and sister-in-law Josie Anderson. He is survived by his sister Eleanor (Allen) Duncanson of Sun City, FL; brothers Jerry (Marilyn) Anderson of Wisconsin Dells WI; Donny (Michele) Anderson of Carson City, NV and sisters in law, Jean Anderson and Gladys Anderson. He is further survived by four grandchildren Beth (Winsand) Parr and husband Tony Parr of Hudson WI; Bob Winsand and wife Beth (Thompson) Winsand of Gilmanton WI, Karen (Winsand) Schultz and husband Mark Schultz of Alma WI and Vickie (Winsand) Davidson of Gilmanton WI. Clifford’s surviving great-grandchildren are Damon Parr and wife Kimmey Parr of Milwaukee WI, Kelsey Ann Parr and partner Joel of Loveland CO, Chastity (Winsand) Colby and husband David Colby of Indianapolis IN, Robby Winsand of Indianapolis IN, Brett Schultz and wife Jamie Schultz of Eau Claire WI, Ryan Schultz of AUS, Brock Schultz of Eau Claire WI and Sean Davidson and partner Lisa Smith of Eau Claire WI. His great-great grandchildren are Jonathan Anthony Parr; Alayna, David, Karaline, Chase and Jacy Colby, Caleb, Jordan and Lilly Rose Schultz, Sophia Schultz, Kya Francel, Arianna and Sean Marshall Davidson and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday March 2, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Talbot Family Funeral Homes, Mondovi Chapel with Chaplain Gary Preston Officiating. Inurnment will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi at a later date. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
