Charles Robert “Chuck” Smith, age 76 of Mondovi, passed away unexpectedly on, Friday, May 25, at Mayo Health – Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, WI.
He was born on October 7, 1935 on the family homestead in Elmwood, WI a son of the late Robert K. and Sadie (Melstrom) Smith.
Chuck attended schools in Elmwood and later graduated from Durand High School in 1953. After high school, he attended University of Wisconsin-Stout, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. Charles also attended Winona State University Graduate school.
On February 15, 1958, Charles was united in marriage to Rosemary Caturia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, WI. To this loving union, four children, Lori, Toni, Tim and Scott were born.
Chuck began a career teaching industrial arts at Glen Flora and Hortonville, WI before he began a long tenured career at Mondovi High School retiring in the late 1980’s
Following his retirement from teaching, Chuck began working at Marten Transport starting the safety and new driver in-service program. In his later retirement years, Chuck enjoyed driving school bus for the Mondovi School District.
Chuck’s family will forever remember their dad as an early riser, hard worker and wonderful provider for all their needs. Chuck had not only had a humane heart for animals he also had a deep love and devotion for his lord, his family, friends, past students and the Mondovi Community.
Chuck will be sadly missed by his wife of the past 54 years, Rosemary, of Mondovi; four children, Lori Smith and her husband Craig Thibado of Menomonie, Toni Sue Smith of San Clemete, CA, Tim Smith of Seattle, WA and Scott Smith of Scottsdale, AZ; one step granddaughter, Tiffany Jo Thibado; his one sister Janet (David) Martin of Rochester, MN; two nephews, Brad and Jeff; two nieces, Heidi and Holly; also by six grandnieces and one grandnephew; also by his two precious schnauzer’s Sadie Mae and Sammy Joe.
Besides his parents, and his father and mother in law, Louis and Marcella Caturia, his brother Myron Smith preceded Chuck in death.
A memorial service for Chuck will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Hospital chapel with Father George Szews and Monsignor Edmund Klemek officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held on Wednesday, May 30 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home, Mondovi and again on Thursday, from 12:00 Noon until the hour of the service at the Sacred heart hospital chapel.
