Charles Ray Schlawin, 83 of rural Cochrane, Wisconsin died July 26, 2014 at Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minnesota.
Charlie was born on March 5, 1931 at the family farm in rural Cochrane to Walter and Hilda (Hilgert) Schlawin. After graduating from Cochrane High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served during the Korean War from 1949 to 1956. Following his tour of duty he returned to the family farms where he spent the rest of his days caring for the land and for his beloved livestock. He managed to grow a substantial herd of Polled Herefords which remain today. He married Judy Wilsey on September 3, 1966 and they had two children, Susan (Beseler) and Annette. During the past 16 years Charlie’s granddaughter, Brianna Beseler, had been the biggest joy of his life. He shared many stories with her and they always shared a special goodbye until they met again. Charlie liked deer and turkey hunting, golfing and most of all enjoyed the outdoors. Charlie loved life and over the years shared so many adventures with his dearest friends, Wally, Lyle and Boyd just to name a few. He was always there to help family, neighbors and friends with whatever work needed to be done. He dedicated his life to his farms and family. His kindness is the legacy he leaves with all who knew him.
He is survived by his two daughters Susan (Don Baloun) and Annette, his only granddaughter Brianna Beseler, sister Marilyn (Simonson) and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy, his parents and his brother Wallace.
