Carolyn Kay Kernan, age 75, of Mondovi, Wisconsin passed away on June 7, 2024 with her loving daughters by her side. Carolyn was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Hazel and Joseph Whalen. She grew up in the town of Wheaton attending the rural Sunny Valley Elementary School and Chippewa Falls High School. Through the years she worked at Mason Shoe Manufacturing and in the Luther Hospital Cafeteria. Her most treasured moments were those of wife to her beloved husband, Dewey, and being mom, grandma and great grandma to her precious family. She loved fiercely and was loved by many in return. Carolyn was an accomplished photographer, winning many awards and accolades. Her favorite times were when she and Dewey could take long drives to photograph God’s beauty. Carolyn and Dewey shared a deep love for each other, family, nature photography and their “boys” (special pups Leo and Nemo). Carolyn is survived by her daughters Karen Hall and Julie (Jeff) Sandberg; Karen’s children, Sean Hall, Brendan Hall and Devin (fiancee’ Felicia) Hall; Julie’s children, Justin (Kelly) Sandberg and Jeremy (Emily) Sandberg, to whom she was a loving and doting grandma; cherished great grandchildren, Teagan, Izzy, Juniper, Aiden, Ashton, Tenley, J.J and baby Sienna expected soon; sisters, Lauraine “Lori” (Mike) Brandt, Susan (Ron) Walsh and Joann (Joe Smith) Beighley; her niece and 5 nephews; brothers-in-law Rodean Kernan and Dale (Delores) Kernan. Carolyn had many dear friends including cousin Nira and neighbors Boe (Hunter & Nathaniel), Mary M. and “Grandma Lou.” Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Rodger and Elaine Kernan; nephew Daniel; husband, Dewey Kernan, who was her one true love and co-pilot in life; and dear grandson, Joshua Sandberg. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 13, 2024 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi, Wisconsin. According to Carolyn and Dewey’s wishes their ashes will be united as one and scattered over places dear to their hearts. Carolyn’s family wishes to thank her many friends for their love and support and are grateful to the doctors and nurses of the Dunlap Cancer Center and Mayo Clinic Health System for their wonderful care.
