Burdell Orlin Herold, age 77, of Alma, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Pepin Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pepin, WI
He was born on March 21, 1938 in the Town of Belvidere, Buffalo County, WI a son of the late Romeo and Emma (Wendland) Herold.
Burdell attended Alma Area Schools, graduating with the Alma High School Class of 1956. Following his graduation, Burdell along with a few close high school classmates joined the United States Air Force. Burdell served his Country until his honorable discharge in 1960.
On June 14, 1959, Burdell was united in marriage to Donna Dobberphul at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Burdell and his wife spent their first year of marriage as residents of California and upon his discharge from active duty returned home to Alma where they have resided ever since.
Upon their return to Alma, Burdell was immediately employed at the Dairyland Power Plant and after 33 years, Burdell retired in 1993.
Burdell was a lifetime and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma giving himself in several capacities, including the church council, calling committee and the church choir.
Burdell held memberships in both the EAA and the NRA and was a proud member of the Western Buffalo County Ambulance helping in every way possible.
Burdell will be remembered for his kind and caring ways and always putting the needs of others before his own and for his love of animals, especially his cats and collies. As the years went by and Burdell’s family grew it seemed that his heart would grow as well, full of love and pride, especially for his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Burdell will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 56 years, Donna of Alma; his children, Kandi (Alan) Steinke of Alma, Kris (Cathy) Herold of Prescott, WI, Kelly (Janna) Herold of Buffalo City, Kendra (Todd) McGurer of Brownsburg, IN and Kelsey (Edwin) Wall of Nelson; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Matteson, Meghan Steinke, Micah Herold, Joe McGurer, Morgyn Steinke, Kamryn Bowen, Kamilah Wall and Nehemiah Herold; his precious great grandchildren, Miles, Easton and Adler Matteson; his twin sister, Bernice Zuehlke of Neenah, WI and brother, Alton (Gladys) Herold of Alma; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Burdell was preceded in death by his parents and his third child and son, Kerry who preceded him in death in 1983.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at 5:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow the service at Alma Memorial Cemetery.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 20 from 3:00 PM until the hour of the memorial service all at the church.
