Betty Seiberling

Betty Jean Seiberling, age 83, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 16, 2020. Betty was born to Emil and Rose (Wilkins) Thietje on a farmstead near Everly, in Clay County, IA. She graduated from high school in McIntire, IA, where Betty helped her father on the farm for a few years. During this time she met Lowell Seiberling and the two were married on March 20, 1958. Betty’s commitment to farming and family was deeply ingrained. She worked beside her husband and managed to maintain the farming accounts, household and raise their three daughters. Betty also did much of the milking of the 50 cow herd as they farmed the land together. Upon selling the dairy cows the couple went into semi-retirement and tended a herd of Angus-cross beef cattle. They continued to farm and manage the land until they went into full retirement in 2013. Betty's passion for watching a game with the Packers, Brewers and Badgers was hardly ever missed. When Lowell passed in 2017, there were many quiet hours on the farm where she lived. She never missed Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. Those times were off limits to call her or it better be short and important. One of her many qualities was her never ending witty sense of humor and sharp attention to details. She was not afraid to speak her mind and let you speak yours. Betty almost always saw the upside of a down situation, and saw it with humor. She lived life as passionately as she spoke it. Betty is survived by her daughters, Pauline “Polly” (Thomas) Glentz, Sheila (Thomas) Huber, both of rural Alma, and JoAnne Seiberling of Wabasha, MN. Her four grandchildren, Sara (Joe) Lisowski, Alexander (Ali), Larissa, Dustin (Andrea); her three great grandchildren Evelyn, Eleanor and Chase; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Lowell; her parents, Emil and Rose; her siblings Ruth Ann Peck, Rose Marie Wilson, and Emil, Jr. Thietje. A celebration of life and wake will be held at the Talbot Family Funeral Home in Alma, on August 22, 2020 at 10:00AM until the of a family service at 11:00AM, with burial to follow at the Tell Cemetery.
