Bernice Mae (Mahlum) Marten, age 90, of Mondovi passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi. She was born on April 8, 1928 in the Town of Canton, Buffalo County, the oldest of 7 children born to Selmer and Bertha (Dregney) Mahlum. Bernice was united in marriage to Kenneth Allen Marten at the Modena Lutheran Church and spent 41 happy and wonderful years together before the passing of Kenneth on October 12, 1987. In 1990, Bernice married Arvin Reglin at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Bernice worked at Buffalo Memorial center, now known as the American Lutheran Home for 20 years in housekeeping and dietary. She also worked at Huntzinger Farms and at various bakeries. She was a longtime and faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi and was an active member of the VFW Post 6550 Auxiliary. Bernice was fondly known for her Aunt Sally cookies, dancing, casino trips, lutefisk, baking and of course for coffee, coffee, coffee. Bernice will be sadly missed by her four children, Richard (Ginger) Marten of Wisconsin Rapids and children Christopher (Tracy), Matthew, Schelley (Brandon) and Rachel; David (Donna) Marten of New Auburn and children David Paul and Sarah; Susan (Leslie) Iverson of Potomac, MT and children Justin (Jennifer), Jay (Melanie), Jon (Courtney); Kim (Sheila) Marten and children Lacey, Andrea and Dominic; great grandchildren, Zakery, Colton, Cade, Ava Rhett and Lars; Bernice also gained a family with her marriage to Arvin, children, Dennis, Terry (Anita) Mary Lou (Maynard) and several grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Edward (Shirley) Mahlum, Elaine Heike, LaVonne Santala, Esther Alme, Dale (Katie) Mahlum and Keith (Sandra) Mahlum; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husbands, Kenneth and Arvin, Bernice was preceded in death by brothers in law and sisters in law. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Bernice M. Marten to Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi or to the VFW Auxiliary Post 6550, 202 S 5th Ave, Strum WI 54770 would be appreciated.
