Bernice May Bade, age 86 of Cochrane, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her daughter's home in Winona, MN. She was born on August 19, 1931 in rural Alma, the daughter of Peter and Lilly (Panschow) Maassen. Bernice was a woman of faith and devoted to Hope United Church of Christ in Cochrane where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, played the organ and was active in many church groups. Bernice was also active in the Eastern Star. She loved being with her family, reading, music and most of all her garden and flowers and often incorporated flowers into her quilting designs. Bernice was known for her patience and peace-keeping talents. The population of red headed children in the world has dramatically increased due to her presence.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra Bade of Oak Park, IL, Cynthia Skorlinski of Charlotte, NC, Susan Bade of Winona, MN and Kristi “Kris” (Frank) Krause of Cochrane; grandchildren, Bennett Mendyk, Erica Skorlinski (fiancé Dane Cunningham), Lilly Krause (fiancé Korbin Brower), Olivia (Aaron) Anders, Alexander Krause, Peter Bade, Daniel Krause, Simon Nguyen Bade; brother, Raymond (Vi) Maassen; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sisters, Malinda Berg and Dorothy Hager and Florence Hager.
A funeral service will be held at Hope United Church of Christ, Cochrane on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial to immediately follow at Buffalo City Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes, Cochrane Chapel on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and then again one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope United Church for the improvement of accessibility at the church.
