Belva G. Ruben, age 99 of Fountain City, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at St. Michael’s Assisted Living, Fountain City. She was born on September 7, 1919 in Eagle Valley, Fountain City, WI, the daughter of Edward and Elfrieda (Ganz) Arms.
Belva attended Eagle Valley School and graduated from Arcadia High School. She worked at Knaub & Wunderlich Grocery Store/Hardware Store in Fountain City. On October 3, 1945, Belva was united in marriage to Elmer Ruben at St. John’s Ev. Reformed Church in Fountain City. To this union five children were born. In the spring of 1946, Elmer and Belva took over the Ruben Family Farm. Together, they milked cows, raised pigs and grew crops such as corn, oats and hay.
Belva was a talented seamstress and even made her own wedding dress. She was active in 4-H and won many awards and received numerous accolades for her devoted service. Belva was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher and served as a member on the board of trustees. She was always determined to try new things and if someone told her she couldn’t do it, she did it anyways. Belva loved gardening her flowers and vegetables.
Belva will be sadly missed by her three sons: Richard Ruben of Fountain City, Wayne (Donna Servias) Ruben of Fountain City, and William “Bill” (Betsy Miller) Ruben of Trempealeau, two daughters, Jane Malotke of Stratford, WI, Doris Ruben of Abbotsford, WI, three grandsons, Karl (Heather) Malotke, Scott Ruben and Zach (Arielle) Ruben, two granddaughters: Tina (Fred) Briggs Miranda Ruben, four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Doris Arms; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, godchildren and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; son-in-law, Pat Malotke; three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fountain City on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Gregory Ferriss officiating with a memorial gathering beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be held at Bohris Valley Cemetery, Fountain City.
