Arley Clifton “Butch” Martin III age 63 of Nelson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30 with his loving family at his side at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born on November 11, 1948 in Fort Worth, TX a son of the late Dale and Delores (Thomason) Rud. Butch attended and graduated from Sam Houston High School in Arlington, TX. Butch honorably served his Country as a member of United States Army during the Vietnam War being deployed twice there within his service. Due to injuries sustained while serving, Butch was presented with the Purple Heart medal. On July 4, 1978 Butch was united in marriage to Lugene Balk in Fort Worth, TX. Butch was employed for the US Corps of Engineers based in Fountain City, a career that spanned of 27 years but due to his illness, he was forced into retirement. He left the Corps with the rank of Master. Butch was a life member of the Forrest-Gunderson-Klevgard American Legion, Post 264. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and a gracious contributor to Ducks Unlimited. Butch will be remembered for many things during his lifetime, so many to list, but some of those activities remembered the most would be his enjoyment of hunting and fishing, camping with his family, watching NASCAR races with Jeff Gordon being his favorite, playing cards and other games and playing, but his loves included being a total “shopaholic”, riding his Harley-Davidson with his family, most notable trip with his brother from Wisconsin to Texas. His heart and life revolved around his wife, children and precious grandchildren; there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Butch will be deeply and forever missed by his wife of the past 33 years, Lugene of Nelson; four children, Telisa (J.J.) Jaime of Arlington, TX, Johnny Martin of Arlington, TX, Stacy (partner, Trish) Martin of Whitehall, WI and Crystal (Corie) Maynard of Nelson; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Johnny Martin of Nelson, Elmer Rud of Osseo, Jimmy Rud of Cedar Rapids, IA, Glenda Lueck of New Auburn, WI, Kevin Rud of Gilmanton and Mark Rud of Gilmanton; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, Margaret Rud; his mom he thought of as his own, his Nanie and Papa preceded Butch in death. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5 at 11:00 AM at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel with Rev. Joel Bacon, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Alma will officiate. Burial will be at Nelson Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and again on Monday one hour prior to the service all at the funeral home.
