Arlene Matilda Otto age 86, of Mondovi, passed away on December 6, 2013 at her home. She was born on February 28, 1927 at the home of her parents, Hubert and Ella E. (Schultz) Otto located in Gilmanton, WI Arlene married Glenn Severson and to this marriage one daughter was born. They later divorced. She then married Leonard Carslay, they later divorced. Arlene was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi and was active with both the ladies circle and bible study group. She was known for her love of baking and was well known for her wonderful buns. Many in her family will remember her tasty cookies and her knack to know and bake their individual favorites. One of Arlene’s goals in life was to travel the world and this was a goal achieved as she did mission work in faraway places such as Guatemala and Tijuana, Mexico. She also traveled to countries such as Israel and Switzerland. Arlene was one that put needs of others before her own. She was a gracious lady with a feisty, yet loving personality. Her grandchildren always knew and could feel how much Arlene loved them. Arlene will be sadly missed by her only daughter and son in law, LaRae and Herman Grotzinger of Mondovi; three grandchildren, Angie (her husband Darin) Arndt, Julie ( her significant other, Jason Bell) Wheeler and John (his significant other, Angela Rodriguez) Grotzinger; four great grandchildren, Jamie, Kyle, Caitlin and Devin; her sister, Frieda (her husband Louie) Juergens of Ladysmith; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, a brother Herman and a sister Arvilla preceded Arlene in death. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Mondovi with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. Inurnment will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi in spring. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
