Alton G. Steinke, age 88, of Alma, WI, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Pepin Health and Rehab.
He was born on December 18, 1927 in Mondovi, a son of the late Reinhold and Dorothy (Yenny) Steinke.
He attended and graduated from Mondovi High School. Upon graduating from high school, Alton enlisted in the United States Navy.
On February 23, 1952, Alton was united in marriage to Marion Lorenz in Mondovi. To this union, 4 children were born. Marion preceded him in death on February 14, 1997.
Alton was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139, working construction and dredging.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and reading, especially westerns.
Alton is survived by his children, Carol (Tim) Brommer of Poynette, WI, Cindy Scharr of Alma, Alan (Kandi) Steinke of Alma and Lori (Brian) Bartschenfeld of La Crosse; grandchildren, Sally (Sunil) Joseph, Meghan and Morgyn Steinke and Payton Bartschenfeld; siblings, Delores Hurd, Leora Olufson, Ardell (Mary Jo) Steinke and Veda Schultz; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion; sister Gloria and her husband Robert Guyette; brothers in law, Merlin Olufson and LeRoy Schultz; and his son in law, Richard Scharr.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, WI with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.
