Allan Nuzum

Allan J. Nuzum 93, of Alma, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, with his family by his side. Allan J. Nuzum was born on August 6, 1930, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Howard and Beatrice (Coate) Nuzum. 

Allan entered the Army December 30, 1947 and was discharged December 8, 1953. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against an armed enemy on January 29, 1951 at Suwon, Korea.  Additionally, Allan received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Occupational Medal, United Nations Ribbon, Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Korea Service Medal.

When on leave in Winona, MN Allan met Joyce Schamaun the love of his life.  On July 12, 1952 they were united in marriage. To this marriage 5 children were born.

Allan had various occupations, which included his favorite being employed as a rural mail carrier which he began in 1962.  He retired in 1988 with 32 years of service. Allan was a member of the United Church of Christ, member of the Alma Rod and Gun Club, and a life time member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 224.

Allan will be sadly missed by his lovely wife, Joyce; Children Dale (Elizabeth) Nuzum, Alma, Mary (Tom) Larson, Birchwood, WI, Julie Nuzum (Bruce Wagner), Oakdale, MN, Michael (Brenda) Nuzum, Alma, and Mark Nuzum (Janel Kes), Birchwood, WI; grandchildren:  Joseph Larson (Jackie Peterson), Eric (Vicki) Larson, Anthony (Anne Wespetal) Schollmeier, Erika Nuzum, Derek (Alyssa) Nuzum, Kayla (Ryan) Greske, Sarah (Joe) Averbeck, and John (Annie) Nuzum;16 great grandchildren. Sisters Barbara Hargroves of Holstein, IA, Joyce (Gary) Williams of Le Mars, IA, Patricia (Ronald) Johnson of Calumet, IA and Diane Theisen of Logan, IA and brother Jack Nuzum of Williston, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie Martin, Colleen Martin, Darlene Moore, JoAnn Runyan, Carol Nuzum, Shirley Nuzum; brothers, Robert Nuzum, Leo Nuzum, DeWayne “Gary” Nuzum, Dale Ray Nuzum, and Kenneth Nuzum.

A memorial service will be held on April 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel with Pastor Jim Clausen officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Alma Memorial Cemetery.  A memorial gathering will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.

In lieu of Flowers, the family requests memorials to be directed to the Alma American Legion.
