Alice Margaret Winsand, age 93, Gilmanton, died June 11, 2017, at The Home Place in Mondovi. Alice was born December 14, 1923, in the Town of Gilmanton, Buffalo County, the daughter of Pauline (Schultz) and Oscar Hanson. Alice married Walter Winsand on May 22, 1943 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the Town of Canton.
Alice was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Gilmanton, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Dorcas Society, holding several offices during the years. She enjoyed being in the sewing group, making quilts for world relief and other benefits. While residing at The Home Place, she made wonderful friends with the residents and staff. In her 2 plus years living there she sewed 184 lap-sized quilts or what she referred to as her "laptops"; which she shared with family and friends. Nothing gave her greater joy then to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Roger) Lee of Menomonie and their sons, Travis and Chris and daughter, Carrie Cook; daughter, Shirley (Jim) Hayden of Mondovi and children, Mike Dieckman, Wendy Buchholz, Shelly Mullen and Rory, Ryan and Tyler Hayden; daughter, Amy Winsand (Jim Hulbert) of Spring Valley and son, Ethan; and son, Wayne Winsand (Bridget Rodenberg) of Gilmanton and his daughter, Alissa; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Muriel (Larry) Magadance of Eau Claire; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 2004; sister, Florence Borgwardt and brother, Arnold Hanson.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Gilmanton on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. Burial will be held at Lookout Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes - Mondovi Chapel on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and then again at church one hour prior to the service.
