Alice R. Thompson, age 98 of Pepin, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Pepin Health and Rehab Center. She was born on August 25, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Francis and Ida Smith. During the depression, her family moved to a farm on Marky Bluff. She earned her teaching certificate at Buffalo County Normal School, her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, her Master’s and Reading Specialist Degree from the University of Minnesota. She had a lifelong interest in teaching. She taught in many rural, one-room schools such as: Lost Creek and Deer Creek. She also served as the lab teacher at Buffalo County Normal School. She taught elementary school, remedial reading, and served as Elementary Principal at Alma Area Schools. She was also elected to the Pepin Village Board and the Pepin County Housing Authority.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Mary; son-in-law, Marshall and grandson, Nghia Pham.
A funeral service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pepin on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Karna Marks officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A time for visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes – Alma Chapel on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM and then again at church one hour prior to service.
