Gary B. Halgren, 74 of Buffalo City, passed away Monday June 11 at Whitewater Health Care
Facility in St. Charles, MN with his loving family by his side. Gary lived by the words “what will be, will
be”. He was a very strong courageous man dealing with cancer in 2007 and Parkinson disease.
Gary was born to Clarence and Mildred (Engdahl) Halgren on July 7th, 1943 in Alameda, CA.
Siblings Stuart Halgren and Jane (Brian) Sage. The family later moved to Iowa where Gary attended
Dunkerton High School class of 1961. He joined the US Navy. He served from 1962 to 1966 in Vietnam.
Upon returning he met Diane K. Miller, they were wed on February 14, 1970.
They have been blessed with 48 years of marriage and produced 3 children to this union.
Kimberley Halgren, Tamera Halgren, and Kevin (Traci Smith-Bertrand) Halgren, 2 grandchildren Gage
Rhyner and Gabriella Halgren, 2 step grandchildren Vanessa and Aubrey Smith.
Gary worked for Burrough’s Corp in North Liberty, John Deeres in Waterloo, and retired from
Thern’s Inc, Winona in January 2009. He worked in Manufacturing Industry as an electrical maintenance
worker. He attended tech schools for TV electronics and Cincinnati Milacron for CNC machinery.
He was proceeded in death by parents, brother Stuart, premature daughter Tamera Halgren,
brother in-laws Les Heideman, Bob Schreiber, Gary Miller, sister in-law Peggy Heideman, niece Cindy
(Heideman) Watkins.
Gary loved fishing trips to Lake of the Woods and Mississippi River. Prior to his Parkinson’s
diagnosis, Gary was an avid golfer if the fish weren’t biting he was playing Golf. Gary was fan of Green
Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. He loved his pets, feeding birds and his outdoor cats. He was
proud to be recently honored in St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with a flag ceremony for his service to
this great country and the United States Navy.
The family is having Talbot Funeral home plan arrangements. Private ceremony at later date. His final
resting place will be in Garden of Memories, Waterloo, IA.
